My uncle, Eric Charles Bridgland, was born on 3rd October 1925 and in 1936 won a scholarship to Cranbrook School from Goudhurst C of E Primary School. He cycled to school every day and was a member of the RAF Section of the Combined Cadet Force, as I was.
During his time at Cranbrook School the Second World War started. In due course he joined the Royal Air Force, where he served as a Sergeant Flight Engineer on heavy bombers based in North Africa before being demobbed on 3rd October 1947 - his 22nd birthday.
Eventually he moved to Maidstone where he was living when he suffered a heart attack following a fall in his garden. He passed away a few days later on 6th May 2016.
He leaves four children, nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
